Three years ago on this day, Thani Oruvan starring Jayam Ravi, Arvind Swami and Nayanthara in the lead roles released. The film went on to become one of the biggest hits and director Mohan Raja was commended for his story telling abilities. And three years later, today, the director-actor brothers have announced the sequel to it via a video message on Twitter. Titled Thani Oruvan 2, the film will soon go on floors and will have Jayam Ravi again in the lead role.

Thani Oruvan was released in 2015 and had Jayam Ravi playing a cop who has his own unique ways of fighting the baddies in the society. Arvind Swami was seen playing the antagonist in Thani Oruvan and his stylish uber cool look impressed the audiences. Thani Oruvan was, in a way, a comeback film for Arvind Swami who had stayed away from films for a very long time. Nayanthara played the female lead role in Thani Oruvan and was one of her best performances. Bollywood actress Mugdha Godsey was seen a pivotal role in the film. The music of Thani Oruvan was by Hiphop Tamizha and was one of the hit albums of 2015.
Thani Oruvan was later remade in Telugu with the title Dhruva and featured Ram Charan in the lead role. The remake was directed by Surender Reddy and Arvind Swami reprised his role in the Telugu version too. Rakul Preet played the female lead role in the Telugu remake of Thani Oruvan.
