Baahubali star Prabhas rejected Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat?

Who would want to give up an opportunity as good as starring in Padmaavat? Well, Prabhas, apparently. As per a report carried by The Quint, the Telugu superstar was offered the role of Raja Rawal Singh in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus. Of course, the role was later played by Shahid Kapoor. Wh-ow! This comes as a surprise after the reveal that not Deepika Padukone but Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the original choice. But what made Prabhas turn it down? Read on…

Padmaavat starred Deepika and Ranveer Singh in prominent roles, even though the two did not share a single frame in the entire film. The casting process for the role of Raja Rawal Singh was still on when Prabhas was considered for it. The actor had freshly come out of the monumental success of Baahubali series. Reportedly, he thought the role in Padmaavat was not meaty enough of him. Well, we will wait for an official confirmation on this update! Padmaavat later went on to not only garner unimaginable controversies, but also a grand success. It is one of the highest earning films of 2018 so far. In fact, the movie was able to beat box office collections of Prabhas’ Baahubali n North America. The overseas earnings of the film in New Zealand, Australia and UK (Paid preview) had made a bigger draw than S S Rajamouli’s war epic.

The role of Raja Rawal Singh was later played to the T by Shahid. We are surely expecting to see him win a few accolades in the awards season. Padmaavat also starred Jim Sarbh, Aditi Rao Hydari in key roles. The movie narrated the folklore of Rani Padmavati’s Jauhar in Chittor.
